USB 3.1 is the next generation of USB, with capabilities to transfer data between two computers at up to 10Gbps, that’s twice as fast as USB 3.0. You’ll recognise it by its bright turquoise port. USB 3.1 is fully backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 3.0.
USB Type-C is emerging standard for charging and transferring data. The newest devices are adopting this standard already, and given time it’ll spread to pretty much everything that currently uses the older, larger USB connector. The port itself is much smaller, with a new shape that’s reversible so it’s easier to plug in. It offers up to double the transfer speed USB 3.0, ad is backwards compatible enabling it to be used with older devices.
USB OTG (On-The-Go) is a feature found on many smartphones which allows you to connect various external devices , such as a mouse, keyboard or USB drive. Connecting an OTG enabled flash drive to your smartphone allows you to extract and transfer data (for example photos) meaning you can free up storage on your smartphone.
