Ecover began back in 1979 when a bunch of hippies in Belgium started to think about the harsh chemicals in traditional cleaning products, and their impact on the environment and aquatic life. They put their thinking caps together and developed one of the first Ecover formulas from a tiny shed, which was proudly phosphate free then and still is now. In 1989, their washing powders hit the shelves in Belgium supermarkets for the first time.
They continued to evolve in the 1990s and 2000s to become more of a mainstream brand and were recognised by Time magazine in 2008 as a trailblazer company fighting to save the planet. In 2008, Ecover launched a campaign with WaterAid to help raise awareness around water use. In 2009, their scientists launched a brand new eco-surfactant which used sugar fermentation instead of petroleum to deliver a powerful clean with no impact on the environment. In 2017, they launched their first palm oil free fabric softener and in that year cut their use by around 200 tons. Now, they use 100% recyclable materials to make their bottles and packaging and are continuing to strive for a healthier planet whilst maintaining clean spaces in the workplace and at home.
Ecover is on a mission to redefine cleaning products into the 21st century. Although they’ve been working on this for the best part of 40 years, they are using their expertise to continue to manufacture high-quality cleaning products that prioritise environmental health at all costs
From the way they do business, to how they source their ingredients and sell their products, Ecover lives and breathes eco cleaning and is always striving to find new ways to put their clean values into practice. Whether it’s dishwasher detergent, or an antibacterial spray for home, invest in Ecover.
