Tips to help you stay cool in your office this summer
A heatwave is barging it’s way into the UK and being stuck in an office can make the heat even more unbearable. But, seeing as many of us do not have the luxury of moving our work to a lovely Majorcan beach, here are our tips to help you feel more comfortable in the warmth.
Frozen Water Bottles
Many offices have water coolers or a form of cold water available but in the heat it can sometimes become almost cool-tepid rather than icy cold. A trick to tackle this is to fill your water bottle ⅔ full the night before and lay it on it’s side in the freezer so that all of the water freezes on one side of the bottle. Then before you leave in the morning, fill up the rest of the water bottle. This allows the frozen water to keep the water cold and act as a long-lasting ice pack, helping you to stay refreshed and cool throughout your day.
Desk Fans
Desk fans will be your new best friend in the midst of a heatwave. They are not as clunky and space-consuming as full length fans and are perfect if you are someone who tends to react to heat more than others around you as it should not have a large effect on them. They are a cheap and simple way to stay ventilated in the office.
Spare Clothes or Shoes
We all know how unpredictable the British weather can be so it is always a good idea to have spare layers to put on or pull off as the climate changes during the day. These can be kept in your car or in a bag under your desk.
Light Lunches
Hunger and appetite can subside in heat due to feeling uncomfortable or chemical imbalances from perspiration. Lunch meals such as salads, or cold pastas can be great alternatives to hot meals as they fill you up just as much and do not make you feel lethargic or sluggish.
Don’t Avoid Hot Drinks
As crazy as it might seem, hot drinks can help to cool you down in a warm environment - We didn’t believe it at first either! Drinking a hot drink helps to raise your inner body temperature which means that the difference between your temperature and the environment won’t be so wide. This then means that you will feel the heat less as it will less drastically different.
