Ways to stay more energised at your desk.
It happens to the best of us where, no matter how many hours of peaceful sleep you have had, the day drags along and leaves you feeling shattered by 12 o’clock with even more hours to endure. In light of this, we have compiled a list of tips and tricks to help you stay a bit more awake when all you want is to sleep.
Energising snacks and drinks
When thinking of food or drink to help you stay awake and alert, most people jump to the idea of coffee or tea for their caffeine fix. However, there are many other snacks that wake you up much more effectively without the caffeine crash afterwards. For example, apples contain a wide variety of antioxidants and vitamins that are good for your body and brain helping you feel refreshed and alert. Also, cucumbers are filled with electrolytes that aid your body to stay healthy. Cucumbers can be consumed as a quick snack at your desk or put in water to make an energising drink. Other foods that can stimulate your brain are fish that is rich in omega 3 and chocolate! Chocolate works well for short-term focus.
Movement
Sitting down all day can be a cause of fatigue and restlessness. If you find yourself sitting at your desk for too long and becoming tired as a result, it is a good idea to take small walk around or do some of the tasks you have been putting off that require movement. For example, taking a walk to fill up a water bottle, do some shredding of documents, going to the bathroom. Any sort of leg and back stretching should help to wake you up somewhat. If you are still feeling fatigued at your desk after this, think of small movement you can do at your desk such as chewing gum, bouncing your knee, or just twirling your pen inbetween your fingers.
Temperature
A warm and stuffy office can actually make you feel twice as sleepy as before so it’s always a good idea to open a window or turn on the air conditioning to for a cool breeze that will wake your body up.
